Error sending emails from BT home broadband
The error message says (fill in your own yyy):
The connection to the server has failed. Account: ‘yyy’, Server: ‘xxx.xxx.xxx.xx’, Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0×800CCC0E

If you can read emails ok from outlook express but cannot send
The problem is caused by  BT blocking port 25 for un-validated email accounts
Reading forum comments BT customers on the phone for hours at 50P per minute are unable to get a satisfactory answer.
The solution is very simple.
Change the port from 25 to 465

Open Outlook Express
Select  TOOLS   ACCOUNTS   MAIL

Click on your account to change
Type in 465 in outgoing mail SMTP
Tick this server requires a secure connection SSL
Save the settings with APPLY.
